Free Corkage Waiver- How it works at An Old School Affair!

Free corkage waiver will be given to early birds. There are 15 sets of tags and stickers to be given out so that corkage fee will be waived! If you are thinking of bringing a bottle of wine or hard liquor to An Old School Affair, do ensure that it's duty paid 750ml bottles! (Maximum serving for one bottle: 6)

So what do you do after you get them? The sticker goes onto the bottle. When you want the drinks served, just present both the tag and the bottle (with the sticker on it) to the hotel staff. And W-a-L-a, the corkage fee will be waived! If however you fail to get free corkage waiver, don't fret! Just whip out $35.00 nett for a bottle of wine and $47.00 nett for hard liquor (to be paid in cash) and your alcoholic drinks will be served to you!

Alternatively, you can always stick to free flow of soft drinks and mixers! Stay Tuned!

FAQ 6: Sigh. What should I do after the Ball has ended?

This page will be found in your program booklet as well.

Fretting over nothing to do after the Ball has ended? At a high now but don't know where to go? For those who have not planned any activities yet and just want to chill out with friends, we have collaborated with some of the pubs along Boat Quay for better drink deals just for
YOU cause Hey, it's your night!

Participating pubs along Boat Quay include 1) The Penny Black, 2) Harry's Bar, 3) BQ Bar, 4) The Cavern and 5) Bar Opiume. Just remember to keep your ticket stubs after the Lucky Draw and present it while ordering drinks! Toast. Bottoms Up. Let's celebrate!

After that, just give us one week or so and you can check out http://www.flickr.com/people/oldschoolaffair for high resolution pictures of yourself or an eye candy perhaps! Cause photos, like memories are everlasting and hopefully, An Old School Affair will still be reminisced by you from time to time.

Only 2 more days to go! Check back for tabling tomorrow! Cheerios.

FAQ 5: What time should I reach The Fullerton Ballroom?

Optimal time to reach? I would say 1830 hours or earlier. Here's 3 good reasons why you should come early or at least on time! (In order of severity!! Really.)

1. The NDP Preview will ruin it reason.
As you know, National Day is coming so there will be NDP rehearsals. And that means roads will be closed, which will lead to jams, jams and jams near the Marina Bay. We heard from the events company that the jams were so bad, some of the guests reached at only 9+++ (Oh my gosh!) for one similar event.

I'll just put this map here, anyone who knows how to read a map is free to use it!

Also, Weiliang (such a darling!) has so kindly researched on the roads that will be closed for NDP rehearsals. The Fullerton hotel is reachable by Esplanade Drive via Nicol Highway, Raffles Boulevard and Raffles Ave. After Esplanade Drive, most drive straight to Shenton Way to get to The Fullerton. However, these roads are closed for the entire day so please do not come from that side. Instead, drive from Shenton Way, towards Esplanade Drive (the road closure), but still, expect a jam, because it's the NDP Preview.

What we suggest however, is that perhaps you should not drive, maybe you should park somewhere further, or really, just come earlier. The roads should start congesting by 5pm so it's really not worth it to take the risk. PUBLIC TRANSPORT is the best as it is the least risky.
For more info, check out http://www.ndp.org.sg/articles/news/traffic/index.html.

2. The lots of things to do don't fret about waiting reason.
"We totally abhore and cannot tolerate waiting!" -Bet you must be thinking what you can do if you're early? We have LOADS of pre-Ball activities for you to engage in! These include caricature, silhouette cutting, crystal tattooing and photo printing etc! We also have customised backdrops for you to take pictures with and a cocktail reception. All these are free of charge, so stretch your 60 bucks and make it worthwhile. Basically, there's lots to do, so better early than late!

3. The early bird catches the worm(s) reason.

So what are the worms to be caught? Early birds get the complimentary parking coupons. Early birds get free corkage waiver (limited to 1 bottle per table, we have 15 to give out!). Early birds get to not queue for caricature, photo taking etc. Early birds get to take more photos with friends. Early birds get to spend more quality time with friends etc etc etc.. So come early! You won't regret it, I promise.

See you then 1830 hours at The Fullerton! 4 more days! Keep checking back!

FAQ 4: Are there any special rates for guests of An Old School Affair?

For those of you who are planning to get a room at The Fullerton for Saturday night, courtyard rooms at The Fullerton hotel (See picture below) are available at SGD$269.00++ per night (excluding breakfast).

Courtyard Rooms offer views of the sunlit atrium lobby.

Those who want breakfast along with the room (I think it's only portions of 2 at their Town restaurant) can get a courtyard room at SGD$318.00++ instead.

These bookings will have to go through our Catering Manager at The Fullerton, Ms Sherry Lim by Friday 27 July 2007. Also, the bookings are only for checking in on Saturday, 28 July 2007 and checking out on Sunday, 29th July 2007.

If you wish to get a room at these special rates, kindly post a comment up at this site by 27th July 2007, 0830 hours. Leave your name and contact number and I will get back to you. Just so you know, I will require your credit card details to book a courtyard room for you!

Do check back our website again for more updates! Hope Convocation went well for you today, see you on Saturday! 5 more days!

FAQ 3: Is there a lucky draw for An Old School Affair? How attractive are the prizes?

Lucky Draws have always been part of any Dinner and Dance/Ball/Party, so we're DEFINITELY having one at An Old School Affair!

So what's on the list of STEALS we have at An Old School Affair? This year, our top 3 prizes are proudly sponsored by the NBS Alumni Association:

First on the list is a Sony Cybershot T20 up for grabs! This camera has been termed "The fashionista's favorite camera"... and perhaps the photo lover's, too. Features include high quality Carl Zeiss zoom lens, an advanced BIONZ Sony processor, 3x optical zoom, high definition capability and Face Detection. The camera also comes with a camera case and memory cards totalling 2 gigabytes. Battery, charger and warranty included. ;P

Net Worth: SGD$650 (Definitely a steal, isn't it?)

Up next is our Second prize- an iPod nano (4 Gigabytes). Comes with warranty as well. This is pretty self-explanatory huh?

Net Worth: SGD$375

Our Third prize is a Canon Selphy CP720 printer which is a high performance photo printer! This handy printer also comes with 1 set of 36 credit card prints, a card tray and warranty.

Net Worth: SGD$200

And those are the top 3 prizes worth over a thousand bucks proudly sponsored by the NBS Alumni Association. Tempting isn't it?

Other prizes up for grabs will only be revealed on the 28th July 2007 (Saturday) itself. What I can promise is that since these prizes are sponsored- every single one of them!, the net worth of each item is at least 50 SGD bucks. Definitely tempting I would say.

Okie, do check back for more updates! Oh my gosh! I just can't wait. 6 more days to go!

Thursday, July 19, 2007

FAQ 2: Is there free parking if I drive to The Fullerton?

Hey, good question!

Complimentary parking at the Hotel is very limited and given out on a first-come-first-served basis. So long as you register at reception and we still have these coupons, you're entitled to one if you drive! Need free parking? Just come early! (Will blog in one of the later entries about the reasons why you should turn up early too!) ;P

Also, if you're worrying about the availability of parking lots, don't fret! There will be loads of parking lots available in their basement carpark (which is direct access to the Ballroom as well).

9 more days to go! I just can't wait!

FAQ 1: What is the theme for An Old School Affair?

Some of you inquired about the theme for An Old School Affair. Let's hope these pictures give you the feel for the night. We're looking at VINTAGE- classy, elegant, iconic, everlasting, and basically just old school. So think Marilyn Monroe, or Audrey Hepburn (if you prefer keeping your skirts down!) for the girls; and James Dean, Sean Connery, Cary Grant for the guys.

Gentlemen, we thought you guys might need some help since it is always harder for those from Mars to dress up! What we suggest is that you seriously consider playing around with your hair. Slick it back like Cary Grant (1st pic), or wear a fedora like Leo (2nd Pic)! And if you're feeling adventurous (and rich), you should just splurge on a tuxedo (3rd Pic)!

Anyway, the theme is just there for us to have fun and dress up in what you normally don't; to have something to look forward to and be excited about! Don't fret if you just want to turn up in your best dress and stick to your individual style, that's perfectly fine too! After all, all that matters is your presence at An Old School Affair, cause that's what makes the event special! We need YOU to make the difference.

Anyway, just to digress a little, the rebirth of C-O-O-L is old school! I saw this article in last week's Urban, 12th July 2007 issue. Now, how amazing can that be? The latest fashion season is in the style of old school- tux, leather shoes for men (just take a look at the article!). Seriously, I'm wondering if the Dior designers got their inspiration from us! Naha.

(The caption for the picture reads: "RED CARPET STYLE: Brad Pitt looks like a million bucks at the Cannes Film Festival. No wonder Angelina Jolie can't stop smiling." So, put on your best dress and smile for the night, I'm sure it'll be an amazing night for all of us!)

Just before I end this entry, I hope those of you who enjoyed our blog and are still enjoying it, continue checking back this blog site for more details leading up to Convo Ball! And get your friends to visit our blog too! As our event is nearing, there will be more and more updates for all of you! Till then, see you all! MUACK ha.

Is That What You're Paying For?

Just a few weeks back, a bunch of hardworking people got their well deserved treat in The Fullerton.
Okok, everyone in the comm has been working hard enough, but the privilege treat can only be shared among 6 of us.
So we went down to The Fullerton, where we indulge took pains to taste the 8 course meal.

See how FOCUSED we were in trying out the food?

We have to make sure that every single item appeals to our audience.
For every item we tasted, we had to create a list of comments and feedbacks.
So that took us almost 2 hours for the entire meal, where we finally met the man behind the scenes.

We spent some time giving our feedbacks to the main chef, and made some changes to the menu.
Oh, speaking of the menu, I bet you're dying to see what's on the list.
So here's a sneak-peek to what you'll be busy engaging in on that night.

Ready?

.
.
.
.
.
.

I would say some of the items are just the usual few you eat at wedding dinners and such.
So they're rather common, but of course with restaurant-class standards.
But there are definitely SOME, which you should look forward to.
We were kind of appalled by the innovation which they came out with.

.
Just a hint..
Don't leave your table too early,
Don't leave your table in the middle of the event,
and Every meal usually has a nice ending.
.

So that's what you'll be getting on the night itself.
Definitely worth the amount you're paying for.
Oh, while we were leaving The Fullerton, Weiliang caught a celebrity.

Yeah, Sam Leong!

But too bad he isn't the one to whip up our dinner = (
Alright, so that's our journey to find the best we can for your dinner.
Hope you'll like the food like we do.

Cheers!

-

Just a gentle reminder, we hope to receive more VIDEOS of you guys featuring your grad trip or daily school life.
We have received tonnes of photos, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiastic participation.
As the deadline (6th July) is drawing near, do send us the stuff asap.

We need YOU to make our convo happen!

- Hon Wui -
